What is (NA)MUN?
Model United Nations ( or MUN as its more widely known acronym) conferences, in the broadest and simplest terms, are academic simulations of the United Nations sessions as well as various other international, legal, political, economic, and social bodies. The main aim of these conferences is to provide students with insights into the tumultuous realities of politics and diplomacy, along with the complexities of international relations with a focus on current and historical events.
In MUNs participants (delegates) are in the roles of diplomats representing a country or block who will be discussing the world issues from their own party’s point of view, and therefore are expected to conduct research on their assigned agenda items ( discussion topics ) before the conference starts, as they will be taking part in rigorous debates concerning these issues. This system serves as an unparalleled opportunity for students to develop deeper understandings into the most pressing issues of our world and inspires them to recognize and educate themselves on the problems they face in their everyday lives. However, the benefits of taking part in MUNs are not limited to the skills that may only be employed in such conferences. Participation in MUNs is meant to foster negotiation, speaking and communication skills in addition to encouraging new connections that will outlive the conferences.
Which is why we are joyous to announce that the 8th session of Nesibe Aydın Model United Nations (NAMUN) is approaching! Our very own MUN will be taking place in The Ankara Hotel and our Gölbaşı Ankara campus on the 13th, 14th, and 15th of December. We cannot wait to meet you at NAMUN. Join the World’s heartbeat!
Letter from our Secretary General
Dear Delegates and Advisors, It is my distinct pleasure and honor to invite you to join us at the 8th annual session of NAMUN. Since the conception of its idea, our conference has striven to both entellectually and socially stimulate delegates through a realistic and comprehensive simulation of the United Nations and similar committees, in order to rekindle and strengthen our delegates’ will to speak up for what is logical, natural, and just.
Our team has diligently worked day and night with unswerving dedication to provide you the same high quality conference NAMUN has become synonymous with over the years. As the NAMUN team, we aim to cultivate serious discussions and provide a healthy debating environment where these discussions can flourish into functional resolutions. Accordingly, our committees and agendas have been tailored by our adept academics team to cater for the needs of all delegates and to demonstrate the importance and urgency of international cooperation. In the course of three days, delegates will have the chance to take part in extremely substantive and rewarding debates in diverse committee options.
Tackling issues that are currently debated on the international stage will require nothing short of the most unwavering persistence from our delegates as they will be weighing on historical conflicts and wars, investigating humanitarian crises and responses, and working toward consensus on sustainability and survival. It is my hope that all those who attend will cherish the experiences had and memories made for long after the end of the closing ceremony. I look forward to meeting all of you and see what you achieve at NAMUN 2019!
Secretary-General of NAMUN 2019 Meltem Dönmez
